Designs Blending Old South Asian Elements and Contemporary Silhouettes

In an industry that is vehemently trying to curate a culture of creating time-sensitive, temporary designs and encourage hyper-consumption (consistent buying), we’re trying to do two things: a) negate the idea that fashion must depend on fleeting trends that may be relevant today but would die out some time after and b) promote the idea of creating designs that transcend the cycle of fashion seasons. While we are going to continue to try and come up with creative solutions, this marks Genre’s first attempt to address ‘how do we implement this’—make fashion something that transcends seasons and tells a story rooted in creating timeless designs, cultural craftsmanship, and innovation.

Our first-ever formal edit blends classic South Asian elements—such as the angarkha cut on the neckline or the patiala shalwar—with minimal contours of contemporary silhouettes, in a way that stands out and remains everlasting.

As the festive and wedding season approaches, the search for something extraordinary begins. The concept behind this collection is simple yet profound: we’ve taken iconic South Asian elements, known for their intricate beauty, and subtly merged them with color-oriented, sleek silhouettes.

Picture the traditional gota on an angarkha-neckline you imagined just a second ago, but framed in modern cuts and styles that drape effortlessly around you. Each of these pieces are crafted from fine, heavy silks, chosen not just for its opulence but for the way it flows—adding to the fluidity of every design.

Unconventional designs challenge the boundaries of fashion, encouraging a dialogue between the old and the new—a conversation rich with layers of meaning.

Each piece in this collection speaks to that dialogue. The intricate detailing, the luxurious fabric, and the fusion of traditional and modern elements create a harmony that feels both familiar and refreshingly new, and also, possesses the versatility to be styled in various ways through seasonal trends, without being limited to a specific type of occasion.

This versatility lies in both the fabric and the design. The silk lends our dresses an airy elegance, making them perfect for grand events, from weddings to festive celebrations. Combined with refined and uncluttered designs, the richness of the material enhances
each piece, allowing it to flow and drape in ways that feel both regal and effortless.

We’re trying to embrace the notion that simplicity is extraordinary, and most of our designs reflect this ethos.

Simplicity for us implies ‘carefully curated, minimal designs.’ Memories of a Painting is more than just a clothing collection—it is a mood, an expression, and an embodiment of the woman who wears it. It is for the woman who appreciates the beauty of tradition but desires to redefine it on her own terms.

This festive season, let your style be as unique and extraordinary as the moments you’re celebrating.
